Cleaning Your Mattress and Other Un-washables

One night, over a year ago, my kids and I had gone to stay with some friends for a few days. This family is one of those families who bring you joy and peace to be around. We’ve been dear friends for going on 15 years and have loved each other as if we were blood related.

What does this have to do with cleaning, you may wonder? I was there without my husband, who was working, and was going to sleep in my friend’s daughter’s brand new bed. New mattress, new sheets. You get the idea. And being a woman, I woke up with a problem. I was bleeding. After taking care of myself, I quickly took the sheets off the bed and rinsed them in cold water. That didn’t take care of all the problem, and I still had the mattress to deal with.

The family we were staying with had all been ill, and being an essential oil expert, I’d brought my trusted brand’s Protective Blend, a spray bottle, and water and had sprayed the whole house down, plus everyone in my family had been taking the Protective Blend for days so we wouldn’t catch the bug.

I’d used the mixture before to get blood out of my nephew’s sock when he’d cut his foot, so I decided to give it a try. With a clean, dry hand towel at the ready, I sprayed the mattress with the mixture of the Protective Blend and water and dabbed up the blood. I got every bit out! I checked every fifteen minutes or so to make sure, but all the blood came out of the mattress. Yay!

Onto the sheets, I sprayed them, let them sit for 10 minutes and put them in the wash with another few drops of the Protective Blend. Those too became blood free, and no staining on either!

After we got home, I tried this on my older, stained mattress and got out old stains too!

Sweet!

I’ve used this on my carpet and sofa and found success there as well.

Now, if you have icky smelling fabrics that can’t be washed, and would like to eliminate the smells, try this concoction:

Fill a spray bottle with Vodka and add 15 to 20 drops of Lemon, Lime, Wild Orange, Peppermint, or whatever your favorite Essential Oil is to the bottle and spray on these fabrics. Vodka cleans and evaporates fast so no left over smells.

Try this on mattress and pillows every time you change the sheets. I use Lavender here, as it helps promote a good night’s sleep.
